Crowell & Moring Expands Antitrust And Health Care Groups With Partner Katie Funk
WASHINGTON, March 19, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that partner Katherine I. Funk has joined the firm's Antitrust and Health Care groups in Washington, D.C. Funk is a former staff attorney in the Federal Trade Commission, where she reviewed mergers in health care-related and other industries. She joins Crowell & Moring from Baker & McKenzie, where she was co-chair of that firm's North America Antitrust & Competition sub-group, within the Litigation Group. Funk's extensive experience in antitrust counseling and litigation will enhance Crowell & Moring's premier Health Care and Antitrust groups.
"My co-chair John Brennan and I are excited to welcome Katie to our team," said Arthur N. Lerner, co-chair of Crowell & Moring's Health Care Group and a partner in the firm's Antitrust Group. "Katie is a trusted advisor to many of America's leading health care entities and offers our clients in-depth experience that comes from working as a government antitrust enforcer. With her extensive health care antitrust experience, she is well-positioned to handle the review of major transactions, represent clients in government investigations and complex private litigation, as well as provide regulatory counseling on sophisticated business issues." Lerner directed the FTC's health care antitrust program from 1982 to 1985.
Funk, with more than 20 years of experience, concentrates her practice on antitrust counseling and litigation, in addition to handling other health care-related matters. She advises clients on a broad range of health care antitrust issues, including navigating through health care reform risk and economic issues arising under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), pharmaceutical licensing agreements, distribution issues, price-fixing litigation, Sherman Act Section 2 and Robinson-Patman Act litigation, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic collaborations among competitors in diverse industries. Funk's work also includes counseling clients, leading merger clearance teams, conducting internal investigations, developing corporate compliance policies, and advising clients on their distribution issues. In addition, Funk will advise financial services clients on new regulatory issues raised by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
"Having worked across the table from my new partners for several years and seeing first-hand their commitment to excellence and innovation, I am excited to join such a value-driven, client–focused team. Crowell & Moring's renowned health care antitrust team is able to guide clients through the business opportunities they have and the regulatory and antitrust enforcement challenges they face in the always-evolving health care industry," said Funk.
Funk regularly counsels clients before the FTC, U.S. Department of Justice, and state competition agencies. Her clients include health care providers and suppliers, hospitals and hospital systems, and medical supply and life sciences companies. In addition to her experience counseling health care clients, Funk has handled matters in the agriculture, energy, food, retail, technology, new media, professional services, and consumer products industries.
Funk received her BSBA from Creighton University and earned her J.D. from the University of Iowa, College of Law.
