Following the earthquake, Crowe launched a plan to collect donations from personnel who wanted to assist with the relief program and chose UNICEF and the American Red Cross as the beneficiary organizations. The firm committed to match those donations up to $50,000.
More than 400 individuals at Crowe donated $59,285 for disaster relief efforts.
In all, 24 percent ($13,764) of the donations received from Crowe individuals was earmarked for UNICEF and 76 percent was assigned to the American Red Cross. The $50,000 in matching funds will be directed in the same proportion, resulting in overall donations of $82,482 to the American Red Cross and $25,611 to UNICEF for use in earthquake disaster relief efforts.
"Crowe established this matching fund so that contributions from our people can go even further in assisting those in direct need in the aftermath of this tragedy," said Charles Allen, Crowe Horwath CEO. "I am proud of the people of Crowe and their spirit to help others. Crowe people have a long history of giving, whether it is one of the communities where they live and work or helping when disasters occur elsewhere."
The decision to work through the American Red Cross was based on its established resources in the affected area and its ability to provide immediate relief efforts, while UNICEF was chosen based on its dedication to and effectiveness in improving the lives of children in the longer term.
