Crossbeam Proves Its X-Series Security Platform Delivers World's Fastest Firewall at RSA Conference 2010
Crossbeam Verifies Performance of the X-Series Using BreakingPoint Elite to Simulate the Real-World, Large Scale Mix of Traffic on Mobile Networks
BOXBOROUGH, Mass., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Crossbeam Systems, Inc., today announced test results that prove its X-Series security platform delivers the world's fastest firewall performance to meet the needs of mobile operators and high-performance enterprises. Demonstrations of Crossbeam's firewall performance will be conducted at RSA Conference 2010, March 1-5 in San Francisco, at booth #545. Conference attendees are welcome to stop by to see firsthand proof of the superior throughput performance levels that can be achieved by the X-Series.
Crossbeam stress tested the Check Point R70 Security Gateway firewall running on a fully loaded X-Series using BreakingPoint Elite, the industry's only cyber simulation product for verifying the resiliency of network and security equipment. BreakingPoint products are uniquely capable of simulating real-world network conditions including: native application traffic, real-time security attacks and millions of users at live network speeds.
"We're entering the age of mobile broadband, where smartphones and other wireless devices offer affordable, high-speed technology for surfing the Web and downloading video. Demand will only increase," said Nikos Koutsoukos, director of product management at Crossbeam. "Mobile operators need to think in terms of real-world conditions, not just performance claims in white papers and data sheets. Crossbeam stands up to the most rigorous tests, and we continue to push the envelope to help customers achieve real-world, high-performance security."
Mobile operator networks are straining under a perfect storm of demands -- from growing bandwidth requirements and a rising number of cyber threats to the explosion in smartphone users. It has never been more difficult to provide superior service levels while ensuring "clean pipes" delivery of data services.
To address these challenges, the tests -- based on Crossbeam's newly upgraded X-Series operating system (XOS 9.0) -- simulated the heavy traffic environment of a mobile operator, using HTTP traffic and 96-byte packets, the typical type and size generated by smartphones. Tests confirmed that the X-Series can process 18 million packets per second under the worst traffic conditions, providing full firewall protection to secure millions of simultaneous connections.
"Today's mobile operators want verification of network equipment resiliency in the face of real-world conditions," said Scott Register, director of product management at BreakingPoint. "Crossbeam understands that verifying the performance and security of their X-Series product means assaulting it with the same blended mix of real application traffic and live security strikes seen by mobile network operators. Using BreakingPoint Elite throughout Crossbeam's development lifecycle enables them to improve product performance and verify their offerings will perform as promised when deployed."
Crossbeam's X-Series security platform virtualizes best-in-class, third-party security applications on a highly scalable, carrier-class chassis. High-performance enterprises and service providers deploy the X-Series to consolidate and virtualize their existing security infrastructure for cost savings and to ease the IT management burden without sacrificing security performance, high levels of throughput or reliability. The X-Series' capacity to consolidate entire network security segments onto a single device delivers the lowest total cost of ownership among competing security solutions.
