Application for High School Class of 2015 Student-Athletes Closes October 10
DUBLIN, Ohio, Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Class of 2015: Don't let a case of senioritis prevent you from receiving well-deserved academic and athletic recognition. Apply today for the Wendy's® High School Heisman® Award, an accolade built in partnership between Wendy's and the Heisman Memorial Trophy® to recognize outstanding high school seniors who exhibit the Heisman ideals – diligence, perseverance and hard work – in every aspect of their lives. The Wendy's High School Heisman Award application deadline has been extended to close on Friday, October 10, 2014, at 5:00 p.m., Central Time.
The Wendy's High School Heisman Award, in its 21st consecutive year, is awarded every year to two superlative scholar-athletes, demonstrating academic excellence, a strong commitment to their communities and athletic talent in at least one of the 27 eligible school-sponsored sports. For the past 20 years, the highly acclaimed program has received more than 450,000 applications and honored more than 240 National Finalists and 40 National Winners.
Applicants for the 2014 Award will need to progress through five phases to reach the title of "National Winner":
- School Winners Phase – One senior male and one senior female from every school will be selected as a "School Winner"
- State Finalists Phase – 10 senior males and senior females from every state and the District of Columbia will advance to "State Finalists"
- State Winners Phase – One senior male and one senior female from each state and the District of Columbia will be selected as "State Winners"
- National Finalist Phase – A judging panel will select 12 "National Finalists" from the 102 State Winners
- National Winner Phase – A judging panel will select one senior male and one senior female to be named "National Winners"
The 12 National Finalists, six male and six female, will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City with their families to attend the Wendy's High School Heisman Award Ceremony and the collegiate Heisman Memorial Trophy Award weekend festivities in December 2014.
The one male and one female Wendy's High School Heisman National Award Winners will also earn a Wendy's High School Heisman Trophy, a $10,000 donation for their high school, recognition during the ESPN® national telecast of the college Heisman Memorial Trophy presentation and a $500 Wendy's gift card.
