The ban schedule of paraquat aqueous in China has finally been released after more than eight months' speculation when the Ministry of Agriculture of China issued Announcement No. 1745 on 24 April, 2012. Some restrictive measures have been planned to be carried out on the production and sales of paraquat in the coming years, aiming to ensure the safety of production and use of paraquat in China.
Of course, the policy will cause severe impact on domestic paraquat players, but most of them are medium and small-sized ones. Paraquat business of those large producers are believed to be affected lightly and those with a large volume of paraquat products exported to other countries every year will still gain profit.
However, the policy will bring lots of troubles to peasants either. So far, no good substitute for paraquat AS has been found. When the all-out ban on the sales and use of paraquat aqueous products in China initiates after 1 July, 2016, peasants in China may have to accept higher-priced herbicides which will push up the planting costs.
China releases an announcement on 24 April, 2012 to further restrict paraquat.
