CRL Launches New Tool For Breast Cancer Detection
MINNEAPOLIS, June 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Consulting Radiologists, Ltd. (CRL) is excited to announce a new and innovative tool to detect breast cancer --Abbreviated Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
"Abbreviated Breast MRI is not meant to replace mammography. Screening mammography is the only proven exam that has led to a decline in mortality due to breast cancer. However, mammography is not perfect and does not detect all breast cancers. Abbreviated Breast MRI is an adjunct exam to mammography to increase cancer detection for all individuals; especially those with dense breast tissue, younger generations, and those with average risk," states Dr. Lisa Schneider, CRL Breast Imaging Section Lead.
Up until recently, Breast MRI was reserved as a screening tool for women considered high risk (greater than 20% lifetime risk), primarily because of the cost and length of the exam.
Abbreviated Breast MRI changes all of this. It takes about 15 minutes - a quarter of the time when compared to a conventional Breast MRI (about an hour). It is also offered at an affordable out-of-pocket cost.
Once the exam is complete, it will be interpreted by one of CRL's dedicated breast imaging radiologists.
CRL Women's Imaging is certified as a Breast Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and offers a wide variety of services.
The service is an extension of CRL Women's Imaging and is performed at CRL's Plymouth and Twin Cities Medical Imaging (Edina) locations.
