CRISIS GAMES: Helping CEOs Prepare for the Unknown - Temin and Company debuts new "Crisis Game" case to 60 corporate CEOs
NEW YORK, Nov. 18, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- "Real crises creep up on a CEO, unanticipated and unplanned for, no matter how good a crisis plan the organization has," says crisis and reputation advisor Davia Temin. "That is why great CEOs have to be able to make the right decisions in real time, every time, as a crisis unfolds. There is no room for mistakes, there is no room for hesitation, and there is no room for delegation."
So, how does a CEO prepare for the unknown? On Thursday, November 18, Ms. Temin will unveil a new "Crisis Game" to a group of 60 CEOs in the West. Based on the interactive seminars on media and society created by Fred Friendly – with whom Ms. Temin worked – the experience will entail her walking the CEOs through a reality-based, unfolding crisis simulation she has created.
A five-act "case," the game is designed to stress test each CEO in a crisis, and to allow him or her to see how others react in the same situation.
Twelve CEOs from the group will be assigned roles and will play their parts as Ms. Temin reveals the growing crisis, act by act. The audience, too, will be brought into the role-play, until all are involved, and their assumptions of how they would act under a particular set of crisis circumstances are tested.
"You would think that with all we have gone through in the past decade, leaders would be prepared for out-of-the-box crises, but they are not. It is hard to anticipate just how tough things can get, and how quickly, when you have not had first-hand experience. This game provides CEOs with a simulation of first-hand experience."
"Role playing in front of your peers, in real time, is one of the most powerful ways to practice crisis response," says Davia Temin. "Just as war games are used to stress test combatants, my 'crisis game' is designed to stress test CEOs. It is geared to provide memorable, transformative lessons that can be quite useful to a CEO when a real crisis does hit."
Ms. Temin is founder and CEO of Temin and Company, which advises global companies, their boards, CEOs and leadership teams on reputation and crisis management, marketing and media strategy, leadership communications, and thought leadership.
