How They Won
Mathew, the winner of the indie pop/rock correspondent division, reviewed Chairlift's album Something and drummed up votes by offering customized song recommendations for anyone who commented on his entry. Megan, the winner of the hip hop division, reviewed Muve First artist A$AP Rocky's debut album Long.Live.A$AP and put together a playlist that included Ellie Goulding, Phoenix, Drake and Beyonce. Cynthia, the winner of the Latin music division, reviewed the Las Cafeteras album It's Time during the competition, and listed artists like Lila Downs, Ana Tijoux and Calle 13 in her playlist.
"Muve Music's latest contest is one of the better opportunities presented to music fans in quite a while," said John Gotty, editor of The Smoking Section. "The winners shifted from the fringes of action to front and center, becoming active participants in magic moments in music."
To find the ultimate music fans, Cricket and Muve Music partnered with three lifestyle, culture and music blogs: Brooklyn Vegan (Pop/Rock), The Smoking Section (Hip-Hop/R&B), and Remezcla (Latin). To help fans decide who were the best social correspondents for the job, six finalists posted a playlist, an album review and a video interview to Cricket's Facebook page and three contestants posted the same information on Cricket's MiCricket Facebook page. More than 5,000 fan votes were cast between February 21 and March 1st.
In addition to the trip, all three winners will receive a HTC One SV smartphone loaded with Muve Music to help them capture stories and report about one of the most talked about new music experiences in the world. Social correspondents will be asked to visit and report on activities in and around the tradeshow such as the Muve Music booth as well as events throughout Austin, such as concerts and blogger showcases.
