CREDO to Donate Over $150,000 to Progressive Nonprofits
Carrier with a conscience to fund Fight for the Future, Oil Change International and Planned Parenthood
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CREDO, the mobile carrier with a conscience, announced that it will donate more than $150,000 to Fight for the Future, Oil Change International and Planned Parenthood. Throughout November, CREDO invites its members and the public to vote on the distribution of funds at CREDO Donations.
Since 1985, CREDO has donated more than $81 million to progressive organizations fighting for women's rights, economic justice, voting rights, environmental justice and more. By choosing CREDO products and services, members generate donations for these causes. Their everyday acts of commerce support CREDO Action, a social change network with 4 million activists, and CREDO Donations, the company's philanthropy program.
In 2014, CREDO introduced monthly donations and voting in order to support nonprofits when action is most critical. This month, voters can take a stand for civil rights, environmental justice and women's rights. CREDO will fund three nonprofits that can make an immediate difference for these causes.
"Fight for the Future, Oil Change International and Planned Parenthood lead progressive causes that will define the future of American society," said Ray Morris, CEO of CREDO. "Their successes show that we can preserve Net Neutrality, achieve a clean energy future and protect reproductive rights in the U.S. It's a privilege for CREDO to support these organizations."
Fight for the Future (FFTF) and its million members are on the front lines of protecting freedom of expression in the digital age. In 2015, FFTF's Battle for the Net campaign drove more than four million comments to the FCC and helped win Net Neutrality rules that prevent cable companies from selectively blocking and slowing down websites. Nevertheless, some telecom players have tilted the playing field by exempting their own content and services from artificially low monthly data caps. With CREDO funding, FFTF will launch a campaign to stop these abuses and uphold Net Neutrality.
Oil Change International (OCI) uses research, communications and campaigns to expose the true costs of fossil fuels and confront corporate power. They empower people with data and analysis in the fight for a clean energy future. OCI played a central role in stopping the Keystone XL Pipeline in 2015. Today, the organization is building a global movement to end fossil fuel subsidies. A CREDO grant will help ensure OCI's long-term health by enabling the nonprofit to hire staff in communications, research and organizational development.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America, now 100 years strong, is a fierce advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights. The organization fights to ensure access to vital care, including birth control, cancer screenings and safe, legal abortion. In 2016, state legislatures introduced 445 provisions to restrict abortion access, and nearly half of the states seek to defund Planned Parenthood. In response, Planned Parenthood has waged campaigns to defeat these attacks on women's health. A CREDO grant will help Planned Parenthood be nimble and shift resources to campaigns when they need urgent support.
"CREDO Mobile and Fight for the Future share the same goal: we make it easy for everyday people to become effective activists and change the world," said Evan Greer, Campaign Director for FFTF.
"CREDO is peerless when it comes to building progressive political power. From phones to social change, they make all the right connections, making sure you can hear us all now," said Stephen Kretzmann, Founder of Oil Change International.
"Planned Parenthood has fought for 100 years to ensure all people have access to the health care they need and deserve. Our movement is stronger than ever, thanks to our supporters and long-standing partners like CREDO," added Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
