CREDO Supports Progressive Nonprofits with $150,000+ Monthly Donation
Carrier with a conscience to fund Color Of Change, Rewire and 350.org in August
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CREDO, the mobile carrier with a conscience, announced that it will donate more than $150,000 to Color Of Change, Rewire and 350.org. Throughout August, CREDO invites its members and the public to vote on the distribution of funds at CREDO Donations.
Since 1985, CREDO has donated more than $81 million to progressive organizations fighting for women's rights, economic justice, voting rights, the environment and more. By choosing CREDO products and services, members generate donations for these causes. Their everyday acts of commerce support CREDO Action, a social change network with 4 million activists, and CREDO Donations, the company's philanthropy program.
In 2014, CREDO introduced monthly donations and voting in order to support nonprofits when action is most critical. During this month of CREDO Donations, voters can take a stand for racial equality, investigative reporting on reproductive and sexual rights, and climate change activism. CREDO will fund three nonprofits that can make an immediate difference for these causes.
"CREDO has fought with Color Of Change on the front lines against hate, few environmental groups have been as effective as 350.org in spreading the word about the impact of climate change, and Rewire has done more to educate the public about critical women's health issues than any other media outlet," said Ray Morris, CEO of CREDO. "Every CREDO customer and activist is a philanthropist, and these organizations will make their generosity count."
Color Of Change helps people respond to injustice in the world. As a national online force driven by over 1 million members, Color Of Change moves decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people, and all people. Its most recent campaigns are focusing on exposing the corruption in America's money bail bonds system that puts people in jail not because they are guilty, but because they cannot afford to pay high bail amounts. With CREDO support, Color Of Change will continue to respond to injustice in the most crucial moments.
Rewire provides evidence-based reporting on reproductive and sexual rights, seeking to fulfill journalism's contribution to a free and just society through the exchange of accurate, fair and thorough information. Rewire's reporting has re-shaped U.S. law, uncloaked false witnesses and addressed misinformation in the courts and Congress. Its Legislative Tracker has become the definitive database of the laws, people, organizations and litigation involved in reproductive health and justice. Rewire will invest CREDO funds in aggressive investigative and enterprise reporting, political analysis, new multi-media efforts and partnerships with state-level reporters and outlets.
350.org is building a global grassroots climate movement to hold leaders accountable to the realities of science and the principles of justice. Their achievements include the People's Climate March, the largest climate march in history, and the Go Fossil Free Divestment campaign, which has helped push divestment totals beyond $3.4 trillion in managed assets. With CREDO's support, 350.org will launch five new divestment campaigns in the U.S., help campus leaders and faith leaders escalate their divestment campaigns, and empower grassroots leaders to resist fossil fuel projects.
"Color Of Change has no better partner in the online organizing space," said Rashad Robinson, Executive Director of Color Of Change. "CREDO consistently step ups and speaks out on the critical civil rights issues of our time."
"CREDO Mobile is unparalleled in its commitment to evidence-based advocacy, mobilizing its members in service of progressive values aimed at ensuring equity and equality for all people," noted Jodi Jacobson, President and Editor-in-Chief of Rewire.
"CREDO Mobile is a valuable ally in the crucial fight against climate change," added May Boeve, Executive Director of 350.org. "Causing trouble with CREDO is one of the most effective ways we know of to build a stronger and tougher climate change movement."
