Crawford County farmland, recreational land to sell in major Dec. 12 auction

ROBINSON, Ill., Nov. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 1,553 acres of Crawford County land – most of it productive cropland – will sell at auction Thursday, Dec. 12, with Murray Wise Associates managing the sale.

The land includes 1,273 contiguous acres of tillable cropland, as well as 198 acres of recreational land with frontage on the Embarras River.

"We're excited to be selling this land for the Townsend Trust. The family has patiently acquired the land and put this property together over several decades. Supplies of productive farmland have been slow all year, and there haven't been a lot of opportunities to buy larger properties, especially with this much contiguous cropland. So I think we'll see interest among investors as well as area farmers who can add some of these tracts to their existing holdings," said Murray Wise, chief executive officer of the auction company.

The land is located in the productive Green Brier area – most of it along N. 200^th Street southwest of Robinson. It will be sold in eight tracts ranging in size from 36 acres to 373 acres.

"The recreational land is being offered in two contiguous tracts of 110.93 and 87.40 acres, and one of those tracts has 3,300 feet of frontage on the river. This is a great area for whitetail deer, quail and waterfowl," said Wise.

The smallest tract has a 90,000-bushel grain storage facility.

Bidders will be able to purchase any combination of tracts or bid on the entire property. "We could have someone purchase the entire property, or as many as eight different buyers. I wouldn't be surprised to see local farmers bidding on these individual tracts," said Wise. "The property also has a large equipment shed with an office for someone who is looking for a turnkey farming operation."

The auction will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Robinson Community Center, in Robinson.
