ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The national voice of cybercrime victims, Cybercrime Support Network (CSN), announced today, received a gift of $118,000 from Craig Newmark Philanthropies, the organization of craigslist founder Craig Newmark. With this foundational sponsorship, CSN is able to continue giving a voice to cybercrime victims and further work toward accomplishing their organizational goals of hiring military family members and getting women into the tech industry.
The impact of an online scam or attack can be devastating, and knowing where to go for help can be confusing. Millions of American consumers and small businesses are affected by cybercrime each year and struggle to find resources to help report and respond to the incident. Founded in 2017, CSN is the first organization to use a national reporting structure to connect victims to resources, increase crime reporting, and help address the lack of information that is available to law enforcement and industry.
This gift has taken CSN's new program FraudSupport.org from idea to reality. FraudSupport.org is a program, created by CSN, that provides assistance to both individual and small business cybercrime victims. FraudSupport.org will lead cybercrime victims through the Report, Recover and Reinforce process after an incident occurs. The new site will be released nationwide in mid-November 2018.
Craig Newmark Philanthropies has also supported CSN's organizational goals of hiring military family members and getting new women into the tech field. CSN is making conscious hiring choices that give opportunities to nontraditional candidates who may otherwise be overlooked by employers because their resumes do not fit the typical mold.
After earning three college degrees and then staying home to raise her two children, CSN's CEO/President Kristin Judge was denied employment more than once because she had not participated in the "traditional" workplace for several years. "So much talent is overlooked because of gaps in a resume or being in the service," said Judge. "We are dedicated to finding those talented people and making them a part of our team. A grant from Craig Newmark Philanthropies has made it possible for us to hire two amazing team members, and we are truly grateful for the support."
"Cybercrime Support Network is about bringing together good people doing good work to serve those who are victims of cybercrime," said Newmark. "I'm proud to support this crucial work, as well as their goals of further diversifying their organization by hiring vets and military family members and bringing more women into tech. This industry needs talented people to help address complex issues, like cybercrime, and build products that make life better and do no harm."
