CQ Roll Call Announces Staff Recognition Award Recipients
Esteemed Washington Journalist Jane Norman Receives Overall Excellence Award from Peers
WASHINGTON, May 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CQ Roll Call, an Economist Group business, today announced the recipients of its inaugural staff recognition awards following last night's formal accolades ceremony held at the Columbus Club in Union Station.
CQ's Economy & Budget Editor, Jane Norman, received the overall excellence award, and the following staffers were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the venerable news organization in each of six other categories:
- Shawn Zeller, Writing
- Scott Campbell, Customer Service
- Jad Chamseddine, Cross-Team Fostering
- David Nicks, Innovation
- Bill Clark, Determination
- Jackie Toth, Team Player
Counter to the nature of many awards programs, which are typically leadership-driven, CQ Roll Call's awards initiative is entirely peer-led, from the formation of the nominating committee and the nomination process to the final decision-making and selection of the winners. Staff members were nominated in seven categories, with three finalists and one winner selected per category, and one overall excellence award earned by veteran journalist Norman.
"As an avid storyteller, dedicated colleague, trusted leader and passionate truth-seeker, Jane embodies the finest of journalistic traits, so I can see precisely why her peers found her to be most deserving of the overall excellence award," said CQ Roll Call President Paul McHale, who created the awards program but was not involved in the process – nor were any of his direct reports eligible to nominate or be nominated – staying true to the program.
Norman, who has been with CQ Roll Call since 2009 and is a member of the prestigious Gridiron Club in Washington D.C., oversees coverage of the federal budget, economic issues and appropriations bills at CQ Roll Call. Her role includes editing stories for the daily digital news site as well as for CQ Magazine, a weekly publication in print and digital format.
"I am truly overwhelmed," said Norman. "My colleagues every day motivate and inspire me, and demonstrate their commitment to our high standards. It is an honor to work alongside them to deliver in-depth news and analysis on Congress to our readers."
