Cox WiFi Launches in Northern Virginia
Hotspots Expand WiFi Availability and Simplify Access for Cox High Speed Internet Customers
FAIRFAX, Va., Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications announced today that it has launched a network of Cox WiFi hotspots for Cox High Speed Internet customers in Northern Virginia.
The value-added service allows customers to access the internet at home and on the go. Subscribers to Cox's Preferred, Premier and Ultimate tiers will have free access to Cox WiFi, via WiFi hotspots, as part of their product bundles.
"Our customers want access to reliable and high speed internet wherever they are," said J.D. Myers II, Market Vice President, Northern Virginia Operations. "Providing them Cox WiFi service allows us to meet their changing information access needs, whether it's TV programming, social connections, home monitoring or simply general information that is secure and reliable from the four walls of their home to the four corners of their community. Cox provides solutions not only today but for the future, as well."
Accessing Cox WiFi is simple. When customers are in an area where the hotspot is available, they will see the Cox WiFi network location (SSID) in the list of available networks on their wireless device. Customers simply enter their Cox user ID and password to log in to Cox WiFi. Once authenticated, they will be able to browse the Internet as they would from home at more than 750 hotspots throughout Fairfax County and Fairfax City.
Once customers connect to CoxWiFi using a device, the same device will automatically connect for the next 30 days without customers having to re-enter their Cox credentials. In addition, customers can attach three devices per user ID and 10 per account at a time, allowing family members access to Cox WiFi, as well.
Cox WiFi offers download speeds of up to 15Mbps and upload speeds of 4Mbps. The speeds can vary and are dependent upon the number of smart phones, tablets or other devices connected to the access point at any given time.
