Wallace's promotion is part of CMG's efforts to maximize the expertise and talents of its industry-leading media professionals across its portfolio of radio, television, newspaper and direct marketing businesses.
"Julia is a proven leader and has been one of Cox's most forward-thinking professionals," said Taylor. "She understands and reflects our enduring corporate values and will do an outstanding job leading our seasoned media team in Dayton, Springfield and Southwest Ohio."
Since joining the CMG Ohio team in January 2011 after being editor of the CMG-owned The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC), Wallace has been overseeing the content and newsgathering operations of WHIO-TV, Cox Radio and Cox Ohio Publishing – which includes the Dayton Daily News, the Springfield News-Sun, daily and weekly papers in Northern Cincinnati and their websites.
"It is an honor to be part of such a powerful organization that provides extremely valuable information to Southwest Ohio and is committed to helping improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. I will work hard to continue the innovative spirit that began with our founding in 1898 and is part of our company DNA today. I am excited to lead a team that is transforming the future of local media, " Wallace said.
In 2009, newspapers, TV, radio and digital began working together to provide the area with the most valuable news and information. After a $13 million expansion, the staffs moved into the Cox Media Center in Dayton. They have worked together on a variety of projects, including coverage of breaking news, a special report on Ohio's financial crisis, as well as integrated sales and marketing.
Wallace was named editor for the AJC in July 2002, and in 2004 she was named editor of the year by Editor & Publisher magazine. Under her leadership, the AJC was awarded Pulitzer Prizes in 2006 and 2007. Prior to joining the AJC, she held top editing jobs at USA TODAY, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Statesman-Journal in Salem, OR and the Arizona Republic. She grew up in Rock Island, IL and graduated from Northwestern University. She was inducted into the Medill School of Journalism Hall of Achievement and received the Alumni Merit Award from Northwestern University in 2006.
