Cox Launches 5,000 New WiFi Hotspots
Hotspots Add Value During Peak Holiday Season
ATLANTA, Dec. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications announced today the launch of more than 5,000 new WiFi hotspots in Arizona, bringing the total number of Cox WiFi hotspots available nationwide to over 10,000. These hotspots are strategically located in high-traffic areas like businesses, hotels, restaurants and malls. The timing could not be better as people are out shopping and traveling during the peak holiday season, once again bringing added value to Cox customers.
Adding to the current Cox WiFi markets (Connecticut, Northern Virginia, Omaha, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego, Rhode Island and Sun Valley), the new hotspots are located throughout Tucson and the greater Phoenix metro area.
"Whether your holiday travels take you to the east coast or west coast, Cox WiFi hotspots will help customers connect to the devices and content that matter most," said Lewis Roberts, Executive Director of Wireless Broadband Access at Cox Communications. "Whether it's web browsing, social networks, home monitoring or simply finding a restaurant or tracking down a gift — Cox's High Speed Internet service extends well beyond the home."
Accessing Cox WiFi is simple. When customers near a Cox WiFi hotspot, they will see the Cox WiFi network location (SSID) in the list of available networks on their wireless device. Customers simply enter their Cox user ID and password to log in to CoxWiFi. Once authenticated, they will be able to browse the Internet as they would from home. Cox WiFi and Cable WiFi are free for Cox customers with Preferred, Premiere, Ultimate or G1GABLAST service.
"WiFi plays an important role in keeping people mobilized," says Lewis. "By adding these additional hotspots, Cox is able to deliver reliable high-speed Internet service to our customers in their homes and on the go. Cox is committed to providing solutions not only for today but also for the future."
Cox customers who are looking for WiFi access can go to www.cox.com/hotspots and enter their current location to find nearby hotspots. Users can also click on a WiFi icon on the map or download the Cox Connect app for iPhone and Android devices and immediately access directions to or from the specific WiFi hotspot address. Once a user has logged into a Cox WiFi hotspot, his or her wireless device will automatically recognize and logon to other Cox WiFi hotspots.
Cox is also a member of the CableWiFi consortium with other cable providers, and offers Cox customers access to the nation's largest WiFi network of more than 400,000 hotspots across the country.
