ATLANTA, Feb. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With the upcoming World Cancer Day on Feb. 4, Cox Enterprises announced a $200,000 donation to be shared equally by Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta and the Movember Foundation. The company donated $5 to both organizations on behalf of each of the 20,000 Cox employees who participated in a free "Know Your Numbers" (KYN) health screening.
"At Cox Enterprises, our employees have always been our number one resource. I'm particularly excited that we were able raise awareness about early detection, while also helping fund Susan G. Komen and the Movember Foundation's life-saving cancer research," said Marybeth Leamer, Cox Enterprises' executive vice president of human resources and administration. "Cox's Know Your Numbers program is designed to help our employees understand and improve their physical and financial health."
Cox's KYN program provides actionable data through free annual screenings. The comprehensive health and wellness program also includes numerous personal coaching, weight loss and smoking cessation initiatives.
Cox locations across the country hosted more than 200 employee events to raise awareness about the power of early detection in the fight against cancer. The company also provided self-awareness guides and tips on how to take advantage of Cox's preventive care benefits. As part of the campaign, Cox employees shared inspirational videos about beating cancer, adopting healthy lifestyles and losing weight. Cox Chairman Jim Kennedy also shared his personal story about overcoming an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
The KYN program is unique in that it also helps employees understand their financial health. For retirement, KYN provides a personal readiness statement to eligible Cox employees that shows if they are on target for a successful retirement. As an employer of choice, Cox's retirement and savings benefits include a traditional pension plan, 401(k) and retiree medical - something offered by only six percent of Fortune 500 companies.
