Cox Enterprises Announces $25,000 Grant to Support the League of United Latin American Citizens
Grant Will Empower the Hispanic Community through Access to Key Technologies
ATLANTA, April 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Enterprises announced a $25,000 grant to the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) to expand its Empower Hispanic America with Technology (EHAT) network to Georgia. The program serves to empower the Hispanic community by increasing access to and utilization of key telecommunication technologies.
"We are proud to create this community resource and connect our longstanding national and local partners LULAC and the Latin American Association," said Cox Enterprises Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Administrative Services Bob Jimenez, who also chairs the board of the Latin American Association. "Cox's contribution will expand LULAC's network of 65 community technology centers to Georgia, providing free broadband access and computer-related training to students, parents, and low-income individuals."
Through this partnership, LULAC will bring workforce development trainings, skill development opportunities and employment services to the EHAT site in Georgia, which will be housed at the Latin American Association.
"Access to reliable broadband is one of the most pressing civil rights issues facing the Latino community," said LULAC National Executive Director Brent Wilkes. "With the help of Cox Enterprises, we are thrilled to expand our tech center network to metro Atlanta and empower our families and communities with broadband access."
The grant will build upon Cox Enterprises' national diversity partnership with LULAC in which the company supports efforts to ensure the Latino community has access to vital resources and amenities. The partnership began in 2011 and includes both financial support and in-kind public service announcements run on Cox Communications and Cox Media Group.
"We are grateful to Cox Enterprises for its continued support of the Latin American Association and the important work we do," said Latin American Association Executive Director Aníbal Torres. "We are excited to partner with LULAC to bring the Technology Center to Atlanta as it will have a positive impact within our education and economic empowerment focus areas."
The Latin American Association is Atlanta's largest and longest-serving agency in metro Atlanta dedicated to serving the unique needs of Latino immigrants. Cox has supported the organization since 2004 through sponsorships and public service announcements on WSB-TV and pro bono ads in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Mundo Hispánico.
Cox has a long history of supporting diversity and inclusion. Embedded in its core values, the company actively supports local diversity initiatives and organizations across the country.
