Cox Communications Launches "G1GABLAST" Internet Service in Tucson
Connection is 100 times faster than the average speed available in U.S.
TUCSON, Ariz., March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications and Mayor Jonathan Rothschild announced today that Cox's super-fast gigabit Internet service for residential customers is coming to Tucson, starting at The Place @ Presidio Trails. Marketed under the brand name G1GABLASTSM, Cox will offer speeds 100 times faster than the average speed in the U.S. today.
"Cox has consistently and aggressively increased its investment in its broadband network in Tucson, particularly in our downtown. Cox's ongoing support of nonprofits and education in our community has established the company as a full partner in Tucson's rising success. I applaud their continued commitment to our community by expanding gigabit services to our Tucson residents," said Mayor Jonathan Rothschild.
Cox will begin rolling out G1GABLAST to new residential developments in Tucson as an expansion of gigabit speeds in Arizona. The company has already launched G1GABLAST service in 10 states and will have gigabit speeds in all of its markets by the end of 2016.
Tucson-area educational institutions, hospitals, research facilities and other businesses have had access to multi-gig speeds since 2011 and now residential customers will experience this technology.
"On behalf of the nearly 250 Cox employees in Southern Arizona, we are excited to deliver the fastest Internet speeds in Arizona," said Lisa Lovallo, market vice president, Cox Communications Southern Arizona. "Gigabit speeds, coupled with the investment of nearly 1,000 Wi-Fi hot spots in Tucson, are powering economic growth and development for businesses and residents of the communities we serve."
G1GABLAST will be available in the Tucson area for $99.99 per month when combined with Cox's most popular service bundles. The service offers speeds as fast as 1,000 megabits per second. It will deliver more speed, a powerful home network and rich broadband-enabled services to customers. The service also includes the latest high-speed Wi-Fi router, one terabyte of cloud storage, Cox Security Suite and Family Protection, and 10 email boxes each with 15 gigabytes of storage.
Cox will be demonstrating the service at community events throughout the region and at its retail Cox Solutions stores.
As Cox works to bring gigabit speeds to all of its residential customers, the company continues to increase the speeds of all of its Internet service packages. Late last year, the company increased the speeds of Cox High Speed Internet Ultimate to 200 mbps. Earlier in 2015, the company made its Starter package five times faster and the Essential package three times faster. Cox has increased broadband speeds more than 1,000 percent over the past 15 years.
In the last 10 years, Cox has invested more than $15 billion in its communities through infrastructure upgrades to deliver video, phone and high-speed Internet, and home security and automation service to homes and businesses in the company's service area. In Arizona, the company contributes more than $1.1 billion in annual impact and contributed more than $2 million in cash and in-kind services to local nonprofits in Southern Arizona. Additionally, 85 percent of Cox employees contributed more than $100,000 to Cox Charities, of which 100 percent of funds raised were donated to local organizations. The employees in Southern Arizona donated nearly 3,500 hours of service to organizations in support of families, as well as civic and community organizations.
