Cox Charities 2011 Grant Cycle Opens October 10
Deadline for Submissions November 11
CHESAPEAKE, Va., Oct. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications announces the opening of its Cox Charities grant cycle. Applications for 2012 funding will be accepted from Oct. 10–Nov. 11, 2011, with awards announced by February 2012.
Cox Charities is Cox's charitable giving initiative that supports non-profit organizations focused on youth and education programs throughout Virginia. The program started in Cox's Hampton Roads and Roanoke service areas in 2009, and this year, has been expanded to include the Northern Virginia region.
"Last year, Cox awarded nearly $200,000 in grants to local non-profit organizations in Hampton Roads and Roanoke. We are thrilled to serve our communities in this way, and to expand the program to our Fairfax County and Fredericksburg neighbors this year," said Gary McCollum, SVP and GM of Cox Virginia. "Doing so allows Cox to provide greater assistance in the areas of youth and education, and deepen our commitment to our service areas."
To receive funding, groups must serve communities within Cox's Hampton Roads, Roanoke, Fairfax County, or Fredericksburg service areas. Eligible programs are youth and education initiatives involving science and technology, mentoring, literacy, or other opportunities designed to advance the education of youth.
An Advisory Committee, comprised of community and business leaders, has been appointed to make final grant selections following an initial review. The 2011 Cox Charities Advisory Committee members in the Hampton Roads area are:
