Cox and The Trust for Public Land Name Patrick Armstrong as Louisiana's 2015 Cox Conserves Hero
Friends of the Lafitte Corridor receives $10,000 on his behalf
BATON ROUGE, La., Oct. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications and The Trust for Public Land today named Patrick Armstrong as Louisiana's 2015 Cox Conserves Hero. Armstrong's nonprofit of choice, Friends of the Lafitte Corridor, will receive $10,000 on his behalf. The three finalists were chosen by a judging panel and then competed in an online public vote to be named Louisiana's Cox Conserves Hero.
Patrick Armstrong is the co-leader of NOLA Trash Mob, a group of volunteers who cleans up public lands. Patrick organizes bi-weekly trash cleanups using social media. Since 2013, the group has held over 70 cleanups and removed nearly 10 tons of litter from New Orleans' public outdoor spaces. Under Patrick's leadership, NOLA Trash Mob has grown to more than 1,100 volunteers through innovative partnerships with neighborhood associations, rotary clubs, universities and Friends of the Lafitte Corridor.
The two runners-up will each receive $5,000 for their nonprofits of choice. Gretchen Vanicor selected ReCover Acadiana, and Chip Vosburg chose Quality Deer Management Association – Louisiana State Chapter.
The following Louisiana organizations have received financial support from the Cox Conserves Heroes program: Friends of Lafitte Corridor; Jefferson Beautification, Inc.; Lafayette Square Conservancy; Louisiana Environmental Action Network; New Orleans Food and Farm Network; Operation Sudden Impact; Parkway Partners; The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and The University Lakes Improvement and Preservation Association.
Cox Conserves Heroes also takes place in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts and Virginia. Through the overall Cox Conserves Heroes program, more than $575,000 has been donated to environmental nonprofits and more than 150 volunteers have been honored.
