LONDON, March 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Covington & Burling is pleased to announce that Alex Leitch is joining the firm's London office as a partner.
Mr. Leitch is a solicitor advocate and advises and represents parties in complex, high value and high profile international disputes. His focus includes disputes arising out of financial markets, with an emphasis on regulatory disputes in the financial services sector. He is consistently recognised by both Chambers UK and Legal 500 UK in the areas of commercial litigation and banking litigation.
"Alex will make a strong addition to our London office. English law and the High Courts in London continue to be the forum of choice for many international transactions and are often central to the resolution of our clients' disputes," said Timothy Hester, chair of the firm's management committee. "Alex's arrival adds an important new dimension to our international commercial litigation and arbitration capabilities in Europe."
John Hall, the chair of the firm's global litigation practice, added: "As we continue to grow in Europe, Alex's skillset and broad experience are a terrific fit with our existing capabilities. Covington's dispute resolution credentials cover a wide array of industry sectors, from life sciences to financial services, and we are committed to expanding in the UK and Europe."
Mr. Leitch said that he was attracted to Covington because of the caliber of its international offering in litigation, regulation and compliance. "Few international firms seek to provide a holistic approach when it comes to resolving disputes. At Covington, traditional litigators work hand in hand with the firm's regulatory, government affairs and international trade teams, which proves extremely helpful in many circumstances. Covington's global approach and its collegial culture made this a truly compelling proposition."
Jeremy Wilson, an international arbitration partner in London, added: "Alex has a tremendous reputation in the London market, and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm. I have no doubt that his arrival will be well received by our clients around the world."
Mr. Leitch was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1991 and became a partner at King & Wood Mallesons (then known as SJ Berwin) in 2000. He was one of the first and youngest solicitors to qualify as a solicitor advocate.
In an increasingly regulated world, Covington & Burling LLP helps clients navigate their most complex business problems, deals, and disputes. Founded in 1919, the firm has more than 850 lawyers in offices in Beijing, Brussels, London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, Silicon Valley, and Washington.
