Covestro engineer who supported historic solar-powered flight to keynote Science Fair

Kassalen will share her inspiring journey as a young female engineer, demonstrating to students that the sky is the limit with an education and career in STEM. Kassalen's accomplishments include:

• Representing Covestro on the historic Solar Impulse (www.solarimpulse.com) mission to fly around the world without a drop of fuel.
• Providing on-the-ground support for Solar Impulse as the youngest member and only U.S. female engineer on the ground crew.
• Being named to the 2017 Forbes 30 Under 30 (http://www.forbes.com/profile/paige-kassalen/) in Energy.

"The need for a strong STEM workforce is growing, with studies projecting more than one million additional STEM-related jobs in the next decade," said Jerry MacCleary, president of Covestro LLC. "Through Covestro's support of important education initiatives, we are able to cultivate a passion in students for STEM careers—inspiring them to become the innovators of tomorrow."

The Covestro PRSEF engages more than 1,000 students each year in grades 6 through 12 from 105 schools across southwestern Pennsylvania and Maryland. Students will present their projects March 31, and the awards ceremony will be held April 1.

In 2015, Covestro became a sponsor of Carnegie Science Center and the title sponsor of its annual science fair. This sponsorship is part of the company's U.S. corporate social responsibility initiative, i³ (ignite, imagine, innovate), which focuses on employee volunteerism, STEM education and corporate giving.
