REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Course Hero, an online learning platform where members can access over 20 million course-specific study resources contributed by a community of students and educators, today announced that 5 educators are currently featured in the Course Hero Best Lesson Series.
The featured educators are Wendy Williams, PhD, Associate Professor of Professional Practice in Honors, Texas Christian University; Ray Faulkenberry, PhD, Adjunct Professor of Psychology, Diablo Valley College; Charlotte Morgan, MA, Instructor of English, Cleveland State University; Carlin Nguyen, PhD, Assistant Professor of Marketing, California State University; Elisa Affanato, MA, Adjunct Professor of English, Montreat College.
"Great educators can take complex, often daunting, topics and make them not only understandable but also relevant and engaging," said Course Hero cofounder and CEO Andrew Grauer. "These educators have helped thousands of students learn to love these topics, and their passion for teaching shines through their creativity. Through our Best Lessons series, Course Hero is providing a platform for educators to share their incredible teaching techniques with educators around the world."
Dr. Williams holds a MA in English from Baylor University and a PhD in English and Certificate of Women's Studies from Texas Christian University. Her lesson, "Encourage Collaboration for a Discussion Facilitation," has students explore and experience empathy in its individual, interpersonal, and civic modes and includes a 12-hour service project with a local community partner in order to develop a coherent theory of empathy.
Dr. Faulkenberry holds a PhD in Psychology from Argosy University. With his foremost goal being to instill in his students a sense of personal equity and self-efficacy, Faulkenberry's lesson, "Foster Perseverance and Proficiency with a Game of Simon Says," puts content mastery in the back seat and instead focuses on promoting personal growth and connections in the classroom through a game of Simon Says.
Ms. Morgan holds both a BA and an MA in English from Cleveland State University. Her lesson, "Show Students that Their (Informed) Opinions Matter," teaches students to use context and research from controversial news articles to write insightful response essays.
Dr. Nguyen holds a BS in Management, an MS in Marketing, and a PhD in Marketing from the University of South Florida. His lesson, "Change Student Perspectives with Professional Partnerships," has students demonstrate their knowledge of the sales process by role-playing with a sales professional.
Ms. Affanato holds an MA in English, Creative Writing, from Rutgers University. In her lesson, "Build Better Writers with a Refrigerator Magnet Game," Affanato uses refrigerator magnets to teach lessons on independent clauses, dependent clauses, and other elements of sentence structure.
