REDWOOD CITY, Calif., May 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Course Hero, an online learning platform that empowers millions of students and educators to succeed, today announced two new student scholarships available to help offset the rising cost of a college education. Launching June 1, Course Hero's $10,000 Academic Hero scholarship will be open to students who demonstrate high academic achievement. The second new scholarship, open now, offers the opportunity to secure $5,000 in financial assistance and each entry helps support philanthropic efforts to increase access to knowledge worldwide. Course Hero's scholarship partner is Books For Africa, a non-profit organization supporting literacy in Africa.
"For over a decade, Course Hero has helped students achieve their academic goals by providing study resources and tools to facilitate learning. Nearly two years ago we launched our monthly scholarship, and subsequently other offerings, to contribute financial resources to members of the Course Hero community," said Andrew Grauer, founder and CEO of Course Hero. "With the addition of the Academic Hero and philanthropic scholarship, we'll help more students from a monetary perspective and provide an opportunity to support causes increasing access to education around the world."
Monthly Scholarships: Short Responses, Big Payoffs
Course Hero's long-standing monthly scholarships award up to $5,000 to a new winner each month. For the chance to win, entrants submit a creative response to a single short-answer question designed to help students hone their strategies for academic achievement. May's question is, "How do you collaborate effectively to prepare for final exams?" Submissions for this month's scholarship are open through May 31. Opening June 1, next month's scholarship question is, "How do you keep your skills sharp over the summer?"
Course Hero now offers a second $5,000 monthly scholarship opportunity also based on a short-answer question, with the bonus of supporting a charity just by applying. For the duration of the current philanthropic scholarship, Course Hero will donate one book to Books For Africa for each submission. Applicants can initiate additional book donations by sharing the scholarship on social networks or study resources to the Course Hero community. Through Course Hero's Knowledge Drive program, over a quarter million books have already been donated to Books For Africa. The deadline for submissions is June 15.
Academic Hero Scholarship: Rewarding Academic Achievement
Course Hero's Academic Hero scholarship will award $10,000 to a student who has a minimum GPA of 3.0 and submits the winning response that showcases their understanding of the importance of collaboration as a critical success factor for deeper learning by answering the question, "Describe a time collaboration played an important role in helping you grow. What did you learn and what were you able to achieve?" Course Hero believes collaboration is an important aspect of learning, problem solving, and an increasingly essential skill in the workforce. This scholarship will be open during the month of June.
