Council on Competitiveness Reacts to State of the Union
Economic Competitiveness Serves As Cornerstone of President's Address to Congress
WASHINGTON, Jan. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- President Obama delivered his State of the Union to Congress last night, focusing on achieving growth and prosperity through a broad competitiveness agenda. "We need to out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build the rest of the world," the president said in his address.
"The Council on Competitiveness commends the president for setting a strong framework for economic growth that supports innovation and education, and creates a more competitive environment for American businesses," said Deborah Wince-Smith, President & CEO of the Council, which was founded 25 years ago to help America meet the challenges of the global economy. "We look forward to working with the Administration to turn these broad themes into successful policies that catalyze a new era of U.S. prosperity."
Throughout his speech, President Obama highlighted the importance of the Council's four pillars of economic competitiveness: talent, technology, investment and infrastructure.
"Last night's speech provides encouraging signals that the Administration will adopt many of the Council's recommendations to strengthen the U.S. economy. Reducing America's corporate tax, cutting our dependence on foreign oil and preserving or even strengthening our investments in science and technology, are all critical for the future of the American economy," Wince-Smith said.
