SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Jopwell, an online minority hiring platform, has announced its partnership with CAE (Council for Aid to Education), a national nonprofit committed to helping educational institutions measure and improve learning outcomes for students. CAE is the creator and operator of CLA+ (formally known as the Collegiate Learning Assessment), a test designed to evaluate the critical-thinking and written-communication skills of college students and working professionals. Through this partnership, CAE will make Jopwell available as a career resource to former and future CLA+ test takers, while Jopwell shares the benefits of taking the assessment to its student user base and participating employers.
"This partnership holds a lot of promise for CLA+ test takers," said Dylan Forsyth, partnership development manager at CAE. "Jopwell is a great avenue for our students to meet employers they might otherwise have had a difficult time reaching. If employers only rely on institutional reputation and GPA to screen students for interviews, they are missing great candidates, particularly from minority-serving institutions. Our data reveals there is a need for additional tools to help foster these connections."
Jopwell enables Black, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American students and professionals to find job opportunities at different levels, across a broad range of industries. Partner companies such as BuzzFeed, Facebook, MasterCard, Morgan Stanley, Pinterest and more can use the platform to search and filter through a pipeline of talented minority candidates from all over the country.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with CAE," said Ryan Williams, co-founder and president of Jopwell. "The CLA+ assessment is a fantastic tool for students to identify and market their strengths. We are excited about the implications for students of color, who can leverage the assessment to overcome bias and present their core attributes in an analytical and data-driven format."
In the shift to include individual-based testing, CLA+ offers credentials and digital badges for students and professionals as they seek employment. CLA+ scores correlate with short and long-term post-college outcomes, such as employment, salary, and other measures of adult success. Recruiters have expressed difficulty in meeting these candidates in their efforts to build a diverse workforce. CLA+ is a solution for both of these pain points.
About CLA+
For the past 10 years, employers have championed education practices that allow students to collaborate, communicate, research, and problem solve. During this push toward critical thinking and deeper learning, CAE has supported hundreds of institutions—including The University of Texas System, the California State University system, and the City University of New York system—as they seek to improve their students' mastery of these skills. Institutions utilize CLA+ to identify successful learning practices. As CLA+ partner institutions have made impressive gains in the ability to match student learning with real-world problems, CAE is able to provide students the tools needed to succeed in the marketplace.
