Cougar Global Investments Appoints Abe Sheikh as Co-Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager
TORONTO and ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., March 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Cougar Global Investments, a globally oriented macro asset-allocation strategist and affiliate of Carillon Tower Advisers, is pleased to announce that Abdullah "Abe" Sheikh, FSA, MAAA, has been named co-chief investment officer and portfolio manager.
In his new role as co-CIO and portfolio manager, Mr. Sheikh will work alongside Dr. James Breech, president and CEO, CIO of Cougar Global, to manage portfolios and provide clients with long-term compound growth through the firm's tactical global asset-allocation strategies and portfolio-construction methodology. He joined the firm in 2017 as head of research, bringing more than 15 years of investment experience and a background that complements the investment process at Cougar Global.
"Abe's expertise in developing enhanced analytics and quantitative-research capabilities have proven to be a terrific addition to our investment approach," said Dr. Breech. "We applaud Abe for his immediate contributions to the research methods of our investment team and have deep faith in his abilities as he takes on additional portfolio-management responsibilities."
"I am honored by the opportunity as co-CIO to work closely with such a highly respected tactical strategist and capital-markets expert as Dr. Breech. I look forward to continuing to work with the firm's outstanding team of portfolio managers to construct portfolios that protect principal while generating growth at a time when clients are increasingly concerned about downside risk," added Mr. Sheikh.
Mr. Sheikh has extensive experience in global strategic and tactical asset allocation. He previously worked for 11 years as vice president of capital-markets research and portfolio management as well as director of quantitative research at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan Asset Management, he was an analyst for four years at Watson Wyatt Worldwide. Mr. Sheikh earned a bachelor's degree in actuarial science from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a master's degree in computational finance from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
"We are excited to welcome Abe into his new role at Cougar Global," said Cooper Abbott, CFA, president of Carillon Tower. "His talent as a quantitative researcher and his passion for the development of investable ideas will be instrumental in helping clients achieve their specific investment goals, and a driver for Cougar Global's continued growth."
