IRVINE, Calif., July 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- California ETEC announces high impact student recruitment events planned for Bangkok, Thailand, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Rangon, Mynamar in Fall 2016, October 16th-22nd. While U.S. high schools, colleges and universities continue to recruit record numbers of international students, increasingly these students tend to come from China, India and the Middle East. Southeast Asia holds promise as one of the fastest growing and most underserved target markets for international students. California ETEC has been coordinating effective student recruitment events in S.E. Asia since 2004, aided by the organization's Vietnam branch office, The Vietnam Education and Training Center (VETEC). VETEC, a stand-alone education advising and resource center established in partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration in 2013, was launched in response to the growing importance of the Vietnam market as a source for international students.

In 2015-2016, more than 19,000 students from Vietnam enrolled in U.S. institutions, placing it as the eighth largest country of origin for international students. What's more, Vietnam is among the fast growing markets sending students to secondary schools in the United States. Thailand has traditionally been a top 20 recruitment market and the education abroad market has shown surprising resiliency despite the political uncertainties over the past several years. Myanmar draws upon a large English speaking population and its re-opening to the West promises to be a major recruitment market in the coming years.
US schools currently have limited choices to effectively promote and recruit students in S.E. Asia. According to Mark Matsumoto, President and CEO of California ETEC, "U.S. schools that do pro-actively recruit international students tend to overlook the S.E. Asia Region. Recruiting through study abroad agents can be effective, but to have long-term recruitment success, U.S. schools need to be visible in the market." California ETEC promotions that exclusively promote U.S. education provide participating schools with a comprehensive range of activities and exposure including:
- Aggressive pre-event marketing campaigns conduct via online and print media
- Visits to leading public and international high schools
- Country and U.S. Visa Section briefings
- Exclusive U.S. Study Fairs
- Agent network events
- Translation, interpretation and printing support
- Coordination of in-country logistics and meeting schedules
