Cortiva Institute School of Massage Therapy Grad Brings Her Skills to Devastated Regions of Haiti
HOBOKEN, N.J., May 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- After Jessica Meirs graduated valedictorian from Cortiva Institute School of Massage Therapy, she decided to use her considerable massage therapy skills to help others.
Meirs hopes to travel to earthquake devastated Haiti with Random Acts, a not-for-profit organization that works with volunteers on five continents, encouraging people of all ages to do good works in the world. In the town of Jacmel, Meirs and other volunteers rebuilt a dental clinic and refurbished an orphanage.
Meirs and other volunteers will build a multipurpose community center that will, according to Random Acts, "house and feed some of the hungry and homeless and educate the children of Jacmel."
While in Haiti, Meirs hopes to use her use her considerable massage therapy skills to help the people of Jacmel. "We're extremely proud of Jessica's efforts – she's an outstanding example of what we teach our students at Cortiva about the healing power of touch," said Ted Havelka, Vice President of Cortiva Institute.
In order to make the trip possible, Meirs needs to raise $5,000 by late May to give to Hope to Haiti. If she reaches her fundraising goal, she will qualify to join Random Acts to assist with projects in Haiti.
"I'm looking for any size contribution – everything will help me reach my goal so that I can go to Haiti and make a quantifiable difference in people's lives," said Meirs.
