Cortiva Institute Graduate Launches The Peaceful Warrior Massage
PINELLAS PARK, Fla., Oct. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Deep down, Scott Roberts always knew that massage therapy was his ideal career. When he was studying Russian at the Army's Defense Language Institute, he practiced massage and even attended massage school for a time while still in the military. But life got in the way and he pursued a number of other careers before returning to massage school in Florida, this time at Cortiva Institute – Florida School of Massage Therapy.
Today, Roberts owns his own business, The Peaceful Warrior Massage (www.peacefulwarriormassage.com) in St. Petersburg, Fla.
"After 17 years of pursuing other careers and employment, I decided it was important to do what I truly enjoy and am passionate about - massage therapy," said Roberts. "I am now certified in neuromuscular therapy and myofascial techniques. I have been trained in chair massage, hot stone massage, and sports massage."
His early career was spent in the military, with seven years as a linguist (Czech, Slovak, German and Russian) and three years in Psychological Operations. He has also managed restaurants, hotels, convenience stores and sales organizations. Roberts has even driven a taxicab and built barns.
But he clearly has a passion for massage therapy and he came to that conclusion after a rough patch in his life, spending four months unemployed for the first time in his life in 2009.
"I had a lot of time to reflect on my life and the choices that I had made and choices I wanted to make in the future," he said. "I decided that I could and would create my own space in the world by doing what I love to do - massage therapy. Bodywork is my passion. I love being able to manipulate and assess the soft tissues of the body and be able to help loosen them. I really enjoy the constant feedback from a client about how great it is during and after their massage. It is great to have a long term impact on their overall health."
Today, Roberts hopes to give back to Cortiva by hiring therapists as his business grows. In fact, he has already utilized the services of the Cortiva career services staff by doing just that.
"My approach to massage is very therapeutic and intended to help people feel better and improve their overall health," adds Roberts. "My goals include providing a great place for clients to come for bodywork as well as an environment that will attract the right therapists for our clients. I will also help mentor hopeful business owners to become successful as well."
