Cortiva Institute Grads Steve and Karen Howeth Share a Life and Love for Their Careers as Professional Massage Therapists
TUCSON, Ariz., Sept. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- At Pain Relief Therapies at Hoogeveen Health Center, a chiropractic office in Frisco Tex., Steve and Karen Howeth use their considerable massage therapy skills to help patients with conditions from general pain relief to such conditions as cerebral palsy or fibromyalgia.
Careers as professional massage therapists didn't come to the couple quickly, but now that it has, it's exactly where they want to be. Married for 27 years and graduates of Cortiva Institute – Tucson, School of Massage Therapy, the couple enjoys being self-employed in a profession they love.
"Most of our clients are people seeking alternative methods for pain management because what they've been trying has not or is not working. Using the skills we learned at Cortiva Tucson, we're making a difference in many people's lives. Knowing we can help is what it's all about," said Steve Howeth.
Before starting their business, the couple lived in Montana for many years raising their family near Bozeman and Helena. Embarking on a career change path led them to massage school in Arizona and the Cortiva Institute there. Graduates of the 1,000-hour program of Cortiva Institute, both are Licensed Massage therapists in two states, Arizona and Texas, and nationally accredited with the NCTMB and CKTP's, certified kinesio tape practitioners.
As part of the Pain Relief Therapies (P.R.T) team, the Howeth's felt privileged to work with Olympians such as five-time gold medalist Greg Louganis and the upcoming 2012 diving competition Olympians at the U.S. Nationals and the World National Junior Olympic Diving Trials. The P.R.T. team aided in athletic sports massage and prevention to help athletes maintain top quality function in their training.
For Karen Howeth, after 17 years working as a general building contractor, the change to a career as a professional massage therapist was a welcome one, especially when the construction industry was hit hard by the recession. "I was always interested in the medical field, and after surviving cancer, my views on western medicine changed and I felt I could make a difference by providing a healing touch."
Happy in her new career, Karen Howeth credits Cortiva administration and staff for their encouragement in finding personal and professional success in the massage therapy industry. "Cortiva helped us make a smooth transition in life and education. For that we thank them. They are like family to us," she said.
