Correct Care Solutions: It's Time to Destigmatize Mental Illness
Free Mental Health Screenings to be Offered during Mental Illness Awareness Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To mark the beginning of Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), Correct Care Solutions is joining the call to raise awareness for those who struggle with, or know anyone who struggles with, mental illness. Mental Illness Awareness Week – which takes place Oct. 1 through Oct. 7 – is sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and encourages people across the country to come together to help fight stigma and lift everyone who deals with a mental illness.
As part of Mental Illness Awareness Week, Correct Care Solutions is helping to spread the word for National Depression Screening Day on Thursday, Oct. 5. Through www.helpyourselfhelpothers.org, anyone can receive a free mental health screening, share their story, and spread the word to encourage others to do the same.
"The treatment process for mental illness begins with destigmatizing these illnesses so that no one is afraid to step forward to seek or ask for help," said Dr. Newkirk, CCS's Chief Psychiatric Officer. "We encourage everyone – especially those who feel like they may be suffering from depression or another mental illness – to sign up for a free health screening on October 5."
Everyone can help destigmatize mental illnesses. There are simple things that people can do, such as talking openly about mental health, educating oneself and others about mental illnesses, and being conscious of one's own language; these all help to destigmatize mental illnesses and help people to get the care that they need.
