In September of 2016 a national hospital chain headquartered in Pennsylvania agreed to pay $32.7 million, plus interest, to resolve claims they billed Medicare for medically unnecessary services. The government alleged that between 2006 and 2013 the hospital chain admitted numerous patients to five of their hospitals who did not demonstrate signs or symptoms that would qualify them for admission. Allegedly the hospitals extended the stays of their patients without regard to medical necessity, qualification and/or quality of care. In many instances the hospital chain allegedly ignored the recommendations of their own medical staff, who deemed some of their patients ready for discharge.
The Corporate Whistleblower Center is especially encouraging medical doctors or healthcare managers to call them anytime at 866-714-6466 if they possess information related to the following types of Medicare fraud or overbilling:
- A hospital is providing incentives for ER physicians to order expensive tests or procedures for Medicare patients who did not need the procedure. (Cauterizations, CT scans, MRI testing, extended observation, etc.)
- Nursing home/ Skilled Nursing Facility/Rehab Center management ordering a battery of unnecessary cognitive, speech, ambulatory, or other expensive testing that was not needed or medically necessary.
- A cardiology group forcing Medicare patients to unnecessarily use a hospital's/their Cath Lab and then requiring the Medicare patient to needlessly to get a coronary stent, or stents.
The Corporate Whistleblower Center says, "We know for certain there are medical doctors or healthcare professionals who have well documented proof of these types of instances involving Medicare fraud or overbilling-and in many instances the overbilling is in the millions and or tens of millions of dollars. In our opinion healthcare professionals with this type of specific information are sitting on a winning lotto ticket and if they would call us at 866-714-6466 we will help them start the process to get rewarded for their information." http://CorporateWhistleblowerCenter.Com
Simple rules for a whistleblower from the Corporate Whistleblower Center: Do not go to the government first if you are a major whistleblower: The Corporate Whistleblower Center says, "Major whistleblowers frequently go to the government thinking they will help. It's a huge mistake. Do not go to the news media with your whistleblower information. Public revelation of a whistleblower's information could destroy any prospect for a reward. Do not try to force a company or individual to come clean on falsely claiming to be a minority owned business. Come to us first, tell us what type of information you have, and if we think it's sufficient, we will help find the right law firms to assist in advancing your information."
The Corporate Whistleblower Center is the premier advocate for whistleblowers in the United States.
