MILWAUKEE, April 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson Controls is ranked 14th in Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine's 16th annual "100 Best Corporate Citizens List." The company was ranked on its performance in seven key areas: environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, governance, finance, and philanthropy. The company ranked in the top 20 in four of those categories with a No. 1 rank in environment.
"Johnson Controls is committed to acting with integrity and accountability across our businesses and everywhere we operate as we strive to make the world a better place," said Grady Crosby, vice president public affairs and chief diversity officer, Johnson Controls. "This recognition from CR Magazine highlights our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and are purposeful in doing what is right for our business by fostering engagement with our employees, preserving the environment and supporting the communities in which we operate."
The "100 Best Corporate Citizens List" was first published in 1999 in Business Ethics Magazine and has been managed by CR Magazine since 2007. To compile the list, every company in the Russell 1000, the highest ranked stocks in the Russell 3000 Index of publicly held U.S. companies, is ranked according to 303 data points. The methodology for generating the list is governed by the Ratings and Rankings Thought Leadership Council of the Corporate Responsibility Association (CRA).
"CR Magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens is the only ranking that doesn't rely on self-reporting," said Elliot Clark, CEO of CR Magazine. "Each year, we measure the most transparent companies who report on their responsible practices. We congratulate those honored on this year's 100 Best Corporate Citizens List for their commitment to corporate responsibility."
