Coriant Announces First Live Enterprise End-User SDN Service Trial and Introduction of Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution Portfolio
Enables True SDN Capabilities for Multi-Layer, Multi-Vendor, Multi-Domain Programmability
NAPERVILLE, Ill., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport solutions, today announced the first true Software Defined Networking (SDN) solution portfolio. The Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution provides an advanced programming environment and open interfaces that empower on-demand, application-centric service agility and direct monetization of network assets (NaaS), while retaining optimal end-user performance in an increasingly unpredictable traffic environment. Concurrently, Coriant is announcing its SDN solution deployment in a live service trial of enterprise end-users with a Tier 1 service provider in Asia.
The Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution couples the benefits of SDN and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies with the differentiated value from a proven product portfolio. The solution leverages the company's expertise in areas such as packet optical transport, mobile backhaul and cloud networking.
The Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution is comprised of two major components:
- An SDN software suite that includes the Coriant Transcend™ Orchestrator based on the OpenDaylight Project, the Coriant Transcend™ Transport Controller, the Coriant Transcend™ Application Suite, and integration of Open Virtual Switch (OVS) functionality for Network Function Virtualization (NFV).
- The SDN enablement of the Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ product and services portfolio, including industry-leading metro-to-core packet optical transport (mTera™ UTP, 7100, hiT 7300, 7090) and smart router (8600, 8800) offerings
The Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution delivers innovative services and functionality for residential and enterprise end-users, including application-based forwarding, network virtualization and defragmentation, and zero-touch service provisioning. These use cases improve the profitability for the service provider by enabling new revenue sources and reducing operational and capital expense, and at the same time, provide a more value-based service to their customers.
"An SDN-based solution transforms today's rigid transport infrastructure into a highly programmable network, one that is just as flexible, efficient and seamlessly scalable as data center computing and storage resources," stated Stu Benington, VP of the Cloud and SDN Business Unit for Coriant. "The Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution enables true SDN capabilities, versus other solutions that fail to fully address the requirements related to multi-layer, multi-domain and multi-vendor integration."
Coriant fully embraces multi-vendor support and is actively working with other partners in the SDN ecosystem for data center connectivity, mobile backhaul and IP/optical transport infrastructure. Additionally, by deploying Coriant's open SDN solution, service providers can accelerate innovation by easily introducing new functions and applications written by vendors, third-party developers, and the service providers themselves. The Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution enables the Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ solution and enhances integration of the company's multi-layer product portfolio.
The promise of SDN is gaining more and more attention as traffic growth increases the costs and complexity of network operations. Coriant has published a white paper which explores how SDN-based solutions can transcend today's rigid transport infrastructure towards a highly programmable network, thus enabling service providers to better compete in a cloud-centric, virtualized, software-defined world. By deploying Coriant's solution, service providers can best capitalize on the opportunity to migrate their multi-layer transport networks according to their specific business objectives.
