Corbett Administration Tours Volvo CE's New Expansion in Franklin County, Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG, Pa., March 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary C. Alan Walker today visited Volvo Construction Equipment's (Volvo CE) North American Headquarters in Franklin County, where he praised the company for its $100 million expansion and creation of 300 jobs.
"Governor Corbett is committed to making Pennsylvania an economic leader by investing in the growth of companies like Volvo CE and the jobs they create in the commonwealth," said Walker. "The third largest construction equipment manufacturer in the world will add 300 jobs in addition to the more than 800 employees that already go to work here in Franklin County."
Volvo CE relocated its management and production capacity from an out-of-state facility and expanded its existing facility in Franklin County because of Pennsylvania's global position and its commitment to investing in the North American market. The newly expanded facility houses the company's new wheel loader production line and serves as the only Volvo CE production facility in North America.
In addition to Volvo CE's relocation and expansion the company has moved its North American sales office and Volvo Rents Headquarters to the state. Volvo Rents is a separate division, and will remain based at a separate facility nearby. The new expansion and relocation will serve as the consolidated North American Headquarters for Volvo CE.
"The economic impact that Volvo CE has on this region is undeniable and one the Corbett Administration is proud to support," said Walker. "Today is a great example of state government partnering with local economic development organizations and private business to bring new jobs and investment to Pennsylvania."
To help the company's expansion efforts, DCED through the Governor's Action Team (GAT) offered Volvo CE a $1 million Pennsylvania First grant, $900,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits and $100,000 from the Guaranteed Free Training Program to support the $40 million expansion. The company has committed to creating 300 jobs and retaining 829 existing jobs.
Volvo CE is a wholly owned business unit of the Volvo Group, and a global leader of transportation vehicles and construction equipment based in Sweden. The Volvo CE Shippensburg plant has become the North American headquarters for this business unit, and the third largest construction equipment manufacturer in the world, selling backhoes, excavators, haulers, loaders, and motor graders.
