Copper Wire Analyzer from Megger Performs Bonded Pair Testing
HT1000/2 easily executes vectored DSL testing for VDSL2 lines.
NORRISTOWN, Pa., May 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Megger, one of the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of test equipment and measuring instruments for electrical power applications, has enhanced its HT1000/2 series of handheld testers to perform bonded pair testing. The HT1000/2 copper wire analyzer easily executes vectored DSL testing for VDSL2 lines.

Ideal for use by maintenance technicians in the telecommunications industry, this copper wire analyzer combines all the functions needed to perform critical and comprehensive cable testing. With a touch of a button, the HT1000/2 can perform many of the 26 standard tests between the technician's central office and the subscriber's locale.
Some standard tests appear on the circuit simultaneously to save time, such as resistance, leakage, noise, power influence, longitudinal balance and voltage testing with DC and AC voltage.
The HT1000/2 includes auto tests with an incremental pair test program that can be configured by the user for up to eight series of tests. These tests, which run automatically, can be used on single, stand-alone pairs in conjunction with the incremental pair test and bulk pair recovery capability. This capability allows technicians to gather data on defective pairs and troubleshoot faults.
The unit also features a spectrum analyzer that assists technicians in finding interrupters that cause disruptions to DSL service as well as reads to the VDSL2 band. This wideband spectrum analyzer covers frequencies from 22 KHz to 33 MHz and noise amplitudes from -90 dBm to +10 dBm.
Megger's automatic Super Stress mode is standard in the HT1000/2. This unique test provides convenient, reliable and extremely sensitive test results, helping to identify the most difficult short loop imbalances during longitudinal balance testing. Super Stress recognizes imbalances in twisted pairs below the zero dB threshold and zero on those below the short wire loops. This mode features a DC bias to help uncover faults caused by corrosion.
The analyzer includes a dual trace time domain reflectometer (TDR) that locates shorts, crosses, opens and short bridge taps that infiltrate VDSL at distances ranging from the end of the test leads to 45,000 ft. The TDR can simultaneously trace two pairs while in pair comparison mode to identify potential cable trouble spots.
The HT1000/2 features Megger's bonded modem that features the latest Broadcom chipset and supports ADSL1, ADSL2, ADSL2+, VDSL2, bonded ADSL as well as bonded VDSL services. The Broadcom chipset is compatible with a wide range of chipset manufacturers. By using this modem, technicians can easily switch between testing bonded and non-bonded service.
This easy-to-use instrument features an intuitive menu on a 1/4 VGA LCD screen with a powerful backlit design that makes testing and troubleshooting simple in all work environments.
Additional features of this copper wire analyzer include ID tone, caller ID, wideband tone send and receive, wideband loss as well as 200 pair pre- and post- test storage. An integrated USB allows for easy downloads of updates and uploads of test results.
The unit is powered with rechargeable nickel-metal hydride batteries. Battery life is approximately 30 hours per charge.
