SHANGHAI, Oct. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CooTek, an innovative and award-winning developer of TouchPal Keyboard, today announced its plan to reinforce its presence in the US market after it successfully concluded the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) case against Nuance Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN).

ITC Judge Lord issued a summary determination that the latest versions of TouchPal Keyboard did not infringe the claims at issue in Nuance accused patents (US Patent Nos. 7,750,891, 7,098,896, and 7,453,439). Subsequently, the parties settled and Nuance withdrew the lawsuits against CooTek in ITC and US district court.
"We are glad that the ITC case ended in our favor. Nuance filed the ITC complaint after we turned down their acquisition request," said Michael Wong, CEO, CooTek. "Although the ITC investigation was a huge cost for a startup, we firmly believed in our innovations and fought vigorously to defend them. The ITC agreed with us and it turned out to be a huge success. We are glad that, with the settlement, CooTek can devote its resources reserved for a trial back to its business operations, and that CooTek and its customers can continue to work together using our latest and most advanced technology without the threat of unwarranted patent harassment."
CooTek recently launched TouchPal X, a brand new text input method on mobile devices. The Android application had more than 1 million downloads within just 3 days after the launch on Google Play, and was rated the "best keyboard on Android" by thousands of smartphone users.
"We plan to introduce our latest input technology into the US market and to set up a new office in United States as well. This should help us reinforce our presence in the US market and enable us to better serve our customers," said Wong. "As a result of the victory in the ITC case, our clients will be more confident in our technology and intellectual property rights."
