ALLENTOWN, Pa., April 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Recognizing unparalleled quality care and delivery at Coordinated Health's (CH) Allentown and Bethlehem hospitals, the U.S. government's Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded its highest possible score of five stars to each of the network's facilities.
Also known as Hospital Compare Star Ratings or HCAHPS Star Ratings, the first-time CMS ratings were released, "to make it easier for consumers to choose a hospital and understand the quality of care they deliver...to build a health care system that delivers better care, spends health care dollars more wisely, and results in healthier people."
The ratings measure 11 components of the patient experience, including communication between physicians and nurses, responsiveness of hospital staff to patient needs, pain treatment, hospital cleanliness and quietness, preparation of patients for post-hospital settings, and patients' recommendations of the hospital to others. The survey factors in feedback from all patients, not only those with Medicare. The ratings are based on patient surveys conducted last year.
In Pennsylvania, only six other hospitals were awarded five stars, all of them outside the CH hospital network service area. CH physicians at CH's two hospitals provide services at multiple locations in eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey. Pennsylvania's statewide average hospital rating is 3.2. Nationwide, only about 7 percent of hospitals (251 total) received five stars.
"We are proud that both patients and CMS have recognized Coordinated Health for unparalleled quality and care," said Dr. Emil DiIorio, CEO of Coordinated Health. "Only through true integration and our cross-functional teams can you achieve this level of quality and outcomes. We are committed to providing a standard of excellence in care that exceeds the expectations of our patients."
CH's two hospitals are conveniently located at 1503 North Cedar Crest Boulevard in Allentown and at 2300 Highland Avenue in Bethlehem. Among their many benefits to patients are CH's highly skilled medical and support staff, a low patient-to-nurse ratio, and large patient rooms with hotel-style amenities.
