LOS ANGELES, Sept. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP) is sponsoring the 2014 Northern California Healthcare Conference. The conference will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. PT at Pano Hall in the Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln, California.
The 2014 Northern California Healthcare Conference, organized by Sacramento MGMA (Medical Group Management Association), is designed to provide outstanding educational and networking opportunities for physicians, practice administrators, clinic managers, billing managers, and other health care leaders from California.
"CAP's participation in the 2014 Northern California Healthcare Conference is part of our ongoing commitment to support programs that educate physicians and health care professionals about the health care industry's state of affairs and how to reduce liability risks and improve patient safety," said Cindy Belcher, CAP's chief operating officer.
Keynote speaker, Peter Mitchell, CAP's Chief Public Affairs Consultant, will provide a MICRA legislative update. Mr. Mitchell will present an overview of the 2014 Legislative sessions in Sacramento and Washington, as well as discuss the potential impact to California-based physicians and patients if MICRA (Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act) is amended through Proposition 46 on the November ballot.
"This November, the ballot measure, 'Drug and Alcohol Testing of Doctors. Medical Negligence Lawsuits. Initiative Statute.' (Proposition 46), will increase the cost of health care by quadrupling the limit of non-economic damages in medical lawsuits," said Ms. Belcher. "It is critical that the California physician community be well-versed in the dangers that Prop. 46 presents so that they can educate their patients to vote 'No' on Election Day."
In addition, Susan Jones, BA, LVN, CPHRM, Senior Risk Management & Patient Safety Specialist at CAP will conduct presentations on "Reducing Risk with Appropriate Documentation" and "Ensuring HIPAA Compliance in the Front Office."
