The latest results were published in The Wall Street Journal in mid August. As in an earlier scorecard released earlier in the year, Cooper Industries received the top score in Technology Strength™, which is a measure that indicates an overall strength of the company's patent portfolio holdings with a combined measure for quality and quantity.

The Patent Board provides an assessment of a company's intellectual property quality and quantity, ranking 178 companies in 2011 in the Industrial Components & Fixtures category. This scorecard is published three times a year in The Wall Street Journal. Cooper Industries' number one ranking marks the third consecutive year that the company has been in the top 10 in its category, and the sixth consecutive year it has moved up in its category. In 2010, Cooper was ranked seventh, rising from number nine in 2009, 15 in 2008, 20 in 2007 and 29 in 2006, according to The Patent Board.
