DETROIT, Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Albert Garrett, President of Michigan Council 25 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, issued the following statement:
"AFSCME and other Labor Unions will join in a Day of Action on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Congressman John Conyers will address a Day of Action Rally to be held at 1:00 PM at the Dozier Community Center, 2025 Middlebelt Road, Inkster MI," stated Garrett.
The Day of Action events focus on the need to protect vital programs and close loopholes that allow corporations and the wealthy to evade their fair share of the tax burden," continued Garrett. "We urge Congress to put off automatic spending cuts and resist further spending cuts, especially harmful changes to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Congress should:
- Ask the wealthy and large corporations to pay their fair share of taxes.
- End sweetheart deals for drug companies.
- Not put deficit reduction on the shoulders of working families.
- Oppose benefits cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid.
