Conversation Helps Build Website for Global Climate Change Awareness
Conservation International collaborates on an informative platform for the Blue Carbon Initiative
NEW YORK, Aug. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Conversation, a marketing agency located in midtown Manhattan, is helping to build a new website for the Blue Carbon Initiative, a collaborative effort between three conservation organizations (CI, IUCN, IOC-UNESCO). The Initiative is an integrated program with a comprehensive and coordinated global agenda focused on mitigating climate change through the conservation and restoration of coastal marine ecosystems. The website will serve as an informative resource to support the work of the Blue Carbon Initiative.
Blue carbon ecosystems, particularly mangroves, tidal marshes and sea-grasses are significant for their ability to help alleviate global climate change. Unfortunately these ecosystems are being destroyed at alarming rates. Consequently, the website is focused on building awareness and fostering a network around the importance of blue carbon for its role in global climate change. The website aims to become the credible and reliable global go-to resource for this issue.
"We are excited to move forward with the Initiative in creating a reliable website that will support the work of the Blue Carbon Initiative," said Dr. Emily Pidgeon, Senior Director for Strategic Marine Initiatives at Conservation International and lead scientist for the Blue Carbon Initiative. "By valuing the critical climate mitigation value of our coasts, blue carbon has the potential to be part of the climate change solution."
The Blue Carbon Initiative is a collaborative effort among governments, research institutions, non-governmental organizations, and communities around the world and works to develop policies and sound science and to engage local, national and international communities and governments to support the sustainable use of coastal ecosystems. The initiative aims to develop management approaches, financial incentives and policy mechanisms for ensuring the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of coastal blue carbon ecosystems.
