REYKJAVIK, Iceland and SAN FRANCISCO, March 6, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Controlant, the leading independent provider of IoT technology and services for global digital supply chains, today announced the appointment of three additional members to its Strategic Advisory Board. Rob Bailey, Yoram Eshel, and Jeremy Schneider bring to Controlant's leadership team decades' worth of experience in the technology, life sciences, and food quality and safety sectors.
Controlant's real-time tracking technology connects the physical world, like product location, time, and temperature, to logistical data stored centrally in the cloud. This simplifies enterprise cloud chain processes. The company's hardware and software technologies, when combined with live sensor data, situational alerts, analytics, predictive reporting, and open application programming interfaces, increase return on investment, improve supply chain operations, and reduce inventory loss.
Controlant will leverage advisory board members' expertise to accelerate its global expansion in the U.S. and other major markets. Strategic Advisory Board members advise the company on technology, international growth, regulatory, and partnering areas. Their involvement helps Controlant in its mission to digitally connect the global temperature-controlled supply chain, ensure consumer and patient safety, and reduce global cold chain waste to less than one percent.
"We are thrilled to have Rob, Yoram, and Jeremy join our team and look forward to their contributions," said Controlant CEO, Gisli Herjolfsson. "Their thought leadership and expertise will help us accelerate our growth and improve our technology as we continue to innovate on the collection and use of supply chain data worldwide."
New Board Member Biographies
Bailey, CEO and co-founder of MState, an industry leading venture firm focused on investing in distributed system (blockchain) companies that sell to enterprise. He has spent 20 years building enterprise technology companies.
"The global EDI market, first founded almost 50 years ago, is ripe for disruption. It is massive ($100B) and blockchain has the potential to transform it. IoT devices like those made by Controlant are the catalyst for dramatic change. They will connect physical world data, including location and temperature, to logistical data stored on and off-chain on closed, permissioned and open systems," said Bailey.
Eshel, a consultant for pharmaceutical and technology startups and entrepreneurial activities in the medical cannabis global logistics arena, has a 30-year plus career working in global pharmaceutical supply chain logistics. His expertise spans transportation; warehousing and distribution systems and processes; customs and trade compliance programs; GDP and temperature management; and security, safety, and environmental programs within the pharmaceutical, biological, and API industries. This includes clinical trials, medical devices, and specialized pharmaceuticals. For nearly 14 years, Eshel served as senior director, head of global transportation and logistics at Teva Pharmaceuticals Industry, where he oversaw global supply chain logistics, which included the transportation of temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products and active pharmaceutical ingredients worldwide, and was involved with the restructuring and consolidation of complex supply chains following several mergers and acquisitions.
"Advanced technology for the global pharmaceutical supply chain that integrates Big Data, analytics, and IoT components into logistics and processes, like Controlant's, is no longer a nice-to-have," said Yoram Eshel. "The long-term survival and growth of enterprises will depend on their ability to adapt to change and not simply embrace what was done well in the past."
Schneider has more than 15 years of experience in the food quality, safety, and regulatory sector. He has addressed some of the most challenging and critical risks faced today by major consumer food brands. He previously served as Quality Assurance Manager for Chipotle Mexican Grill, where he led the rollout of a new food safety and quality program for its nearly 2,400 North American restaurants, suppliers, and logistics partners after the food chain experienced a series of food safety-related incidents in 2015.
According to Schneider, "As the food industry implements the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the largest-scale change to U.S. food safety regulations since the 1930's, the requirements for preventative controls in the supply chain are demanding innovative solutions, like Controlant's. Knowledge is power. The ability for operators to actively manage their end-to-end food safety programs with real-time, actionable data from a single, digital platform is game-changing for the industry."
