Content Management and Life Sciences Software Veteran Joins Virtify as Vice President of Worldwide Sales
Craig D. Smith Brings Strong Track Record to Structured Content Management Leader
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Virtify, Inc., a leading provider of structured content management software for the life sciences industry, today announced the appointment of Craig Smith as the company's new vice president of worldwide sales. A twenty-year veteran of the enterprise software industry, Smith has established a strong track record of meeting and exceeding revenue targets, establishing new markets and building outstanding sales organizations.
Over the past 15 years, Smith has held executive and advisory positions with companies focused on pioneering the content management industry in areas such as enterprise content management, e-learning and enterprise collaboration. In addition to content management, his life sciences background also includes building enterprise leaders in laboratory information management (LIMS) and clinical resource management software. In his new position, Smith will spearhead sales and business development efforts for Virtify as it expands its portfolio in Global Disclosure, Global Labeling and other Structured Content Management applications.
Smith joins Virtify from ClearTrial, the leader in clinical trials operation software for planning, forecasting and tracking clinical trials. Formerly, Smith served as VP of Enterprise Sales at iManage where he established record enterprise sales for collaborative content management software resulting in an acquisition by Interwoven and subsequently Autonomy. As VP of North American Sales at Saba Software, a leader in e-learning and performance management software, he led the sales organization in acquiring its first 100 enterprise customers and the transition to being a publicly traded company. As process industries sales director for Documentum, the enterprise content management software leader, Smith was a key member of the team that built Documentum's pharmaceutical industry leadership position from the earliest customers, growing revenues ten-fold and transitioning it to a publicly-traded company . This life sciences vertical was developed using Geoffrey Moore's "Crossing the Chasm" principles and has since been used as a case study by the Chasm Group. Smith also had a key sales role in developing Perkin Elmer's life sciences industry leadership position with the SQL*LIMS laboratory solution. Smith holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kentucky.
