"Caring for the communities we serve is our Promise to Michigan. We applaud Habitat for Humanity of Michigan for its work to build homes that form the backbone of those communities," said Garrick Rochow, Consumers Energy's vice president and chief customer officer. "Habitat for Humanity is designing some of the most energy efficient homes in the state, which would not be possible without Consumers Energy's continued support and dedication to our mission," said Sandy Pearson, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Michigan. "The Home Run for Habitat campaign lets us expand our impact throughout communities in Michigan, bringing safety, stability and more money in the pockets of our families as the result of energy efficient improvements to their homes."
Consumers Energy is matching dollars that the public donates to the Home Run for Habitat campaign during this Detroit Tigers season. On Saturday, Consumers Energy will present a check representing last year's Home for Habitat contributions before the Tigers home game at Comerica Park. Contributions support Habitat's statewide ReBuild Michigan campaign, which funds work in nearly every county.
Over 400 Consumers Energy employees also volunteered last year in company-sponsored Habitat projects across the state, and several employees sit on the leadership boards of Habitat affiliates.
Consumers Energy's Helping Neighbors program provides energy efficiency upgrades to residents of Habitat legacy homes in several counties. Measures have been installed to increase energy efficiency, including attic insulation, CFL and LED bulbs, and more.
