Consulting Engineering Activities in South Africa 2016
NEW YORK, Oct. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The South African Consulting Engineering Sector: This report focuses on the consulting engineering industry in South Africa between 2010 and 2016. South Africa's consulting engineering industry is represented by the Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) which confirms that more than 540 firms employing more than 24,000 people and earning income of R25bn per annum are involved in the local sector. Although the biggest market for consulting engineering services is Gauteng, which accounted for 23.2% of the market in December 2015, it decreased from 35% in December 2013 while KwaZulu-Natal's share has grown from 10.7% in December 2013 to 18% in December 2015.
A Sector under Pressure : With confidence levels in the industry at a sixteen-year low, the domestic sector faces challenges as a result of the slowdown in the economy and changes brought about by technological developments. Of concern to role players in an economy where growth of 0.7% is viewed as optimistic is late payment for services rendered. Despite the fact that Government has initiated various processes to improve payment, CESA members reported an 18% increase in outstanding fees in first six months of 2015, compared to the last six months of 2014. The increasing competition regarding fees charged for work is likely to be heightened after a recent ruling by the Competition Commission which did not grant an exemption to the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) to set fees for the sector.
Report Coverage: The Consulting Engineering report describes current conditions and recent developments including regulations and rulings, and other factors that influence the success of the sector. The report profiles 42 companies, including large companies Aurecon South Africa (Pty) Ltd, which employs 2,593 at its 26 offices countrywide and WorleyParsons RSA (Pty) Ltd which has 1,046 employees and focuses on the mining sector. Also profiled are small companies such as In-TPM Project Managers (Pty) Ltd which specialises in retail developments in Gauteng and Western Cape micro company, Msingi Construction Project Management (Pty) Ltd t/a Msingi which employs three people.
