Construction Specialties Receives Practice Greenhealth's Champion for Change Award for the Fourth Consecutive Year
C/S' ongoing dedication to sustainable efforts was recognized further with a special accolade
DENVER, May 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Construction Specialties (C/S), a leading manufacturer of high-performing commercial architectural products, is pleased to announce its fourth consecutive Champion for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth. This achievement carries additional significance, as C/S is one of two companies to receive the inaugural Champion for Change with Distinction Award, a new accolade created to recognize businesses that "break the mold" in their approach to sustainability in healthcare. The company received the award at yesterday's 2012 Environmental Excellence Awards ceremony as part of this year's CleanMed conference. This recognition coincides with the recent announcement that C/S has expanded its product transparency efforts to include an on-product ingredient label for their core wall protection product, Acrovyn® 4000.
"To receive this honor among our peers further underscores the work that C/S continually pursues in putting forth the healthiest and most sustainable products we can," said Howard Williams, vice president and general manager of Construction Specialties. "Our goal is to create products that support the wellness of patients and the buildings they inhabit and we believe that our efforts toward product transparency offer our customers unique insight into our products and our corporate philosophy. "
The Champion for Change Award, presented by Practice Greenhealth annually, recognizes businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to sustainability both within their organization and in helping their clients and customers to pursue environmentally responsible practices. This year's introduction of the Champion for Change with Distinction Award – also awarded to architect firm Perkins + Will - further commends companies who have been innovative in the area of chemical responsibility, tracking and addressing toxic or untested chemicals that are part of their supply chain or products, or that contribute to the products and equipment used in their organizational operations.
"We were inspired to create the new Champion for Change with Distinction Award after being continually impressed over the years by the applications from companies who have a sincere commitment to improving environmental health in the healthcare industry," said Lara Sutherland, director of business membership at Practice Greenhealth. "We created this special award to recognize companies such as C/S that have superior award applications and achieved the highest overall scores related to reducing the use of toxic and untested chemicals and materials in their supply chain."
In addition to accepting the award on behalf of C/S at last night's ceremony, Howard Williams also participated in this year's CleanMed conference as a panelist for the session 'Product Transparency: Knowing the Chemicals and Materials in Your Products.' Williams offered insight into the increasing trend of product transparency and how business leaders are opting for safer chemical alternatives in their supply chain in order to protect human and environmental health and cut the costs of regulation, hazardous waste storage and disposal, and future liabilities. Williams' past efforts in this cause include lobbying and testifying before a Senate sub-committee in support of reforming the Toxic Substances Control Act and testifying before the Congressional Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection during a hearing on the Toxic Chemicals Safety Act of 2010. In addition, Howard is also a member of the business NGO Working Group for Safer Chemicals and Sustainable Materials.
