Construction Landmark for Silver Dollar City's New Fireman's Landing
BRANSON, Mo., Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The construction landmark of the setting of a historic bell marks progress on the $8 million all-new themed area at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri – the 1880s Fireman's Landing. The "Setting of The Bell Tower" atop the Fire Station includes a 640 lb. American-made iron bell forged in 1895. Bells themselves are part of the history of firefighting, as community bells were used to alert townspeople of a blaze.
"This 'Setting of the Bell Tower' begins the countdown for the March/spring break opening of Fireman's Landing," said Brad Thomas, General Manager of Silver Dollar City, describing the $8 million new area with 10 family adventures, including 6 rides and 4 attractions. "2015 is going to our biggest family year ever, as not only are we adding Fireman's Landing, but also the world famous Harlem Globetrotters are joining us all summer in their first-ever extended-run show."
The look of Fireman's Landing is modeled after a community fair of a century ago, saluting the spirit and training activities of volunteer firefighters. The storyline creates the atmosphere of the rides serving as "training" adventures for recruits seeking to become part of the Silver Dollar City Fire Brigade.
This theming has historical background to the internationally-awarded theme park (founded 1960), as the 1880s town Marmaros, once located on the site of Silver Dollar City, was burned to the ground by a blaze more than 100 years ago. "Now fast forward to the fictional story for Fireman's Landing, where the citizens band together to prevent such an event," said Thomas.
Fireman's Landing expands into a new previously undeveloped region of the park. The development brings the number of the park's rides and attractions to over 40 and increases ride capacity to over 21,000 per hour. Rides range from an 8-story free-fall drop ride to a low-flying swing ride.
Silver Dollar City is an 1880s-style theme park featuring 7 world-class festivals and events, craftsmen, rides, music and entertainment. The park has been internationally awarded for excellence, including the worldwide Applause Award and the THEA Award (Themed Entertainment Association).
Silver Dollar City opens for select days beginning March 14, and then opens the regular season with World-Fest presenting performers from around the world beginning April 9. Information: 800-831-4FUN, www.silverdollarcity.com.
Silver Dollar City is the original property of Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation, the largest family-owned theme park corporation in America.
